I quilted my Mom’s twister quilt. It is the ruler for 10 inch blocks.

I quilted it in a copper thread.

And I used a wind inspired swirl in each pinwheel. I stippled and used some random shapes in the border.

I made Amish Friendship Muffins tonight. yummy.

1 1/2 cup flour

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 c buttermilk

1/2 c oil

1 c rolled oats

1 t salt

1 egg

3/4 c starter

mix up and bake at 375 for 30 minutes

Must be healthy it has oatmeal in it!

Design wall Monday

Here is  my Mom’s latest quilt. She did a floral Twister. I love it. I looked through my threads and narrowed it down to three. We chose the copper thread. It blends in well but does have a nice contrast on the purples. I am doing a fan blade dwirling stitch. I prefer thread that blends into the background.

I have decided that the cold weather and snow needs to go soon. We are getting another storm Tuesday. I think we have had over 110 inches of snow so far this winter. No more, seriously!

I think that February is the month of eating carbs and dairy. Ha, veggies taste terrible. I made Amish Friendship bread. We ate ice cream and that made this cold grey weekend so much more fun!

It’s done, more details tomorrow!

Relaxing on a Sunday

Here is a catch up on life. In photo a day the full pic is a moment for me to say that I am pretty proud of my son. He wrestled for 6 years. He has 5 AP classes. He volunteered a ton, went to church, took part of praise and worship bands and had a part time job. Very good job indeed.

makes me smile

Love going to the suana on a cold day after a workout. Nice perk at the gym…

a word

When I print my current quilt for foundation piecing, it defaults to Unnamed. I need to think of a name. I hope to put it in a quilt show so I have to keep it a bit hush hush until I know if it gets in the show … or not.

Ahhh, clouds. The view from my front door. It has been a parthly cloudy day today a nice change from the overcast and snow that has been falling and falling. The snowblower needs to hurry up and be fixed, this hand shoveling is not fun for anyone.

AFB or Amish Friendship Bread

I made my first bread from the starter I received last Saturday. It is a sweet cinnamon bread. Yum! Ok I had to improvise from this recipe and used brown sugar because I didn’t have any white sugar. I also used liquid egg whites because I had no eggs. It is good. I found tons of variations out on the net.

This is a pudding free recipe that I used.

1c starter

2/3 c oil

3 eggs

1/2 t salt

1 t vanilla

1 1/2 t cinnamon

1 cup sugar

2 c flour

1 1/4 t baking powder

1/2 t baking soda

Mix it up, place in a greased loaf pans. Bake at 325 for 1 hour.

a day of picture opposites

My Kalanchoe is blooming at work, during the coldest days! What a breath of spring, hope for sunshine and warmer days…

And then the wind and snow hit, about 6 inches by 5pm. I am pretty sick of the snow, the cold and the irritation. It takes longer to do anything. The shoveling, it blows back in as soon as you scoop it up.  The cost to repair the snowblower…and if you didn’t know,  you can’t see outside, the roads are crap. Blah, Blah, Blah. Besides it doesn’t do a thing for my hair.

President’s Day

President’s Day was a nice day off . I wore myself out. I took a picture of something I don’t like. That would be the bathroom tile and I really dislike cleaning it.

I made cookies for the schools blood drive. They taste good but I can’t get them to be pretty using the cookie press. Oh well, they will get eaten. I am sure about that.

I had time to sew and show my friend how to paper piece. I bought more paper at the quilt shop. Wow, has the price gone up on paper piecing papers!

I ended the day with going to the gym and walking only. I am not going to  weight lift for a week or two because I think my neck has an injury in it. I walked for over an hour. Had to, I ate those dang cookies!!

Back to work to get some rest, I am really exhausted!

A week of photos

This has been a week that had some unique things to photograph. I love photo a day because it prompts me to see ordinary things in a unique way. It also gives me opportunity to capture some daily moments and savor them.

The photo of the wrestlers is in Mt Pleasant, at the regional tournament and was photo a day Walking. The team lost and was knocked out of the run for the state tournament because the score ended as a tie. We lost the tie breaker. It was gut wrenching. Our son couldn’t wrestle because he seriously hurt his knee. It was bruised and painful enough to go to doctor. So far, it is healing and we think the ligaments are intact. The season is over for him and it was a bittersweet moment of realizing it was done. We have spent the last week talking about the individual tourney with the remaining guys who went to the district, then the region. Three made it to the state individual tourney. I am so proud of our son and all of his team mates.

The collage of photos are things that happened. The fish were in a convience store in the Upper Pennisula, where we stopped on our way home from a wrestling tournament in Escanaba Mich.  They are bait fish and are located in a wash tub right near the restrooms, ugh. It kinda grossed me out.

Next, is the quilted heart. Love that free tutorial. See sidebar and go to Freemotion by the River. This photo is for Valentines day, Love is… We went to the gym.

The next photo is In your Fridge. Yep, coffee creamer and greek yogurt. Love it!

Friday we went to Traverse City to celebrate our 27th anniversary. We went to TC when we were young because it was the only place in Northern Michigan with a mall. We picked out our wedding rings  at a store that is no longer in business. This year we went to the music store and had my violin restrung with fabulous strings. We also went to the long arm store. We stopped in the organic food store, too. Then we had a lovely dinner at Outback of prime rib. I had the most wonderful day. My husband wrote this on Facebook and I cried.

Happy Anniversary to my wife. For 27 years we have walked through this life together. I can’t imagine making the trip with anyone else, here’s to another 27 years. I love you.

I couldn’t come up with anything special to write back. My feelings can’t be written I guess and everything I wrote sounded hollow. So, Jay if you are reading this. I love you too and wouldn’t have had been on the journey with anyone else either.

Today’s photo is the stack of electronics In your Hand. I have that stuff, especially the phone in my hand. Way too much!!

Lastly, the Amish Friendship bread. I just said to my husband that I wanted to make some. We drove our son to see his girlfriend in Alpena and they were making it! Yummy stuff. Now with Pinterest and other internet resources I have found hundreds of recipes. Oh, I can’t wait to bake. This pic is of the bread that they shared with us, the starter is fermenting as we speak!

So what am I gonna do with the rest of my four-day weekend? Today is sewing, baking, church and laundry. Tomorrow I am teaching a friend to paper piece. And more sewing, baking, laundry and whatever else presents itself. What a full and wonderful last week, I am looking forward to this next one.
