I just keep rolling along….

2013-07-30 16.41.43 A new catalog came in the mail today, and I am redecorating the house and studio space!!

I am testing the Modge Podge Dimensional magic. Same paper, ink and adhesive. I think the problem is not the ink turning blue after drying but the metal in the tray on the tile on the left. I have done some research and that may be the problem. I have more research to do before a final product!!!

Unseasonably cool weather

…has lead to me feeling unseasonable creative! I have finished several little projects that I have been working on for a couple of weeks. I am making an art quilt and here are a few components that I am placing on it:Aviary Photo_130195691108292257

I have been hand sewing the binding on my son’s Super Mario quilt. I will have that completed this week. And I have been working on test blocks. This has lead me to an adventure in applique.

I use the fuseable web method of applique. My sewing machine can sew a blanket stitch now like a dream so I spent several hours working on a new block and stitching the fused blocks I had in my UFO bin. I am not very good at applique but dare I say I started to kinda liked it this weekend! It was a weird moment of “zen” stitching and cutting and fusing….

On the slate this week is long arm quilting. I have the second grandbaby quilt to do, a customer quilt and one of my queens have backing. I hope to load and quilt one, maybe two this week.

And just an update, the glass tile pendant project is still in a state of flux. The adhesive I used turned the tile black because the ink ran. Note to self, read all the directions several times and MAKE A LIST when you go to hobby lobby. I need Diamond Glaze to adhere the paper to the glass. And I didn’t buy it because I wasn’t sure if it was the right thing and it was $10. I always have time to go to that store on Sunday when they are closed, just like the quilt shops!

Some fun stuff

I spent the morning cleaning. I spend the afternoon taking in the sights on a drive along the Lake Michigan shoreline with my husband. I have to say that the cool weather at night is confusing the trees and some have a bit of color starting on the leaves. I didn’t take many pictures but I did take a few when we stopped. We bought blueberry popcorn and fudge. We made a little friend.

I also worked on a deadline test block for Quiltmaker magazine. I am not in my wheelhouse on this block. Applique and camping. Both are a big challenge for me. To have fun, or to cleanse the palette, I am trying my hand a making some pendants. I am not sure if this glue will work but here is the first try. I also am working on a tatted bookmark. That’s labor intensive and needs a time limit too.

A Very Nice day indeed!

I have been working on this quilt for my first granddaughter. My Mom made the second top and that will go on the frame this weekend.  And in case you haven’t heard we are expecting Twin Grands!

I have had a few customers call for long arming services. I may be a bit busy over the next couple of months! In that spirit, I am trying to get some of my quilts done and I have one of my Mom’s on the list too. I find that I am having some trouble deciding what to do this week, where to start and I am spinning my wheels a little bit. So I tried something else, a bit of tatting. I couldn’t remember the pattern so I had Mom email a pic of a book mark I made her a few years back.

I am working on being healthier . I have followed the exercise program 4 days last week and I am on track. The eating is getting better. I am down 2 pounds but the pizza I ate may have ruined that. Back on the program today!

A new realization

Have you ever had one of those moments that you knew something but then it really HIT YOU that it was true? I had that happen over the weekend. I was at our local Alpenfest. We were listening to the live music and met some people that we had went to high school with. We shared memory lane stories. And then I noticed that there were lots of people younger than me listening to the music too.

Hmmm, class of 1993 was celebrating their Class Reunion. YES 20 YEAR REUNION. Oh crap, that means my 30 is next year.

Gotta get my body under control. My 5 year plan was to be in shape, lose weight and be healthier than the last. And I am considering where I was 5 years ago. I had just had my thyroid removed and was undergoing treatments for the cancer. I had scars and was not feeling great.

I am down 20 pounds since then. I am exercising 3 days a week. My labs are all good except my cholesterol so I just started a meds for that. But I need to get 50 pounds off to start.

The plan. I need to exercise differently maybe more often and at higher intensity. I need to lose weight not just for the reunion in a year but for my health.

So next year I hope to be thinner, healthier and stunning for the class reunion.

I’ll take healthier.

Design wall Monday

After much agonizing, I found a fabric that was in the stash that will work for the twins quilts. One is loaded on the frame and ready to start today! My daughters twins are due in the fall. My mom made one quilt top and I made another. We used Atkinsons “All about me ” pattern with Riley Blake’s Hooty Hoot returns fabric line. I love owls and its a trend that I will keep perpetuating!! Stop on over at www.patchworktimes.com to see what everyone else is up to on this fine Monday.

It was a homebody weekend for much of it. I have been working on an art quilt with a new product called WireKnitz and the vender will be at the AQS show. I thought I wanted a bit of tatting on it. I got my shuttle out and practiced a few rings. I can’t remember the pattern I want but it seems to be coming back to me slowly. I did so much this weekend creating/crafting!

I also took a second Zentangle class on Saturday. I love the whole process. It is stress management for me. It focuses my mind and gives me a jump start on creativity. I am not an artist but after the class I am feeling like my little doodles are pretty cool. It helps me with my free motion quilting.

Happy Monday all!
