Holiday Weekend, what’s happening?

image

I have nothing really planned. Last night, after work,  we did a trip down and back to pick up our son from college. We didn’t get in until 130am. I haven’t stayed up that late in a loooong time.

What am I working on? I am still trying to pin a 110 inch backing fabric on the quilt frame. It took a while to iron and I am going to try to get it on this weekend. Then start quilting this very large 95 x 97 customer quilt. It’s gonna be so pretty when done!

Been thinking about what to make with this fabric collection that I received for my birthday. I don’t have any great ideas, yet.

Since I have a new routine and all the housework is done, I had time to make this Zentangle. I like it. I have a lot to learn about shading but I feel that it is coming along.

image

So, to continue to counteract my poor eating habits I did this at the gym this morning. Prior to this is I did a 25 minute workout with weights and at the end a 15 min cool down on the exercise bike. Not bad for an overweight middle aged woman. Then I  ate pizza for dinner.

Enjoying college football. Hand sewing bindings. And something I don’t do much. Relaxing.

Tuesday’s progress!

I decided that I better get the twins (to be born) quilts done. Yes, they are going to be our first grand daughters. They aren’t due till October but I want to be ready because they may come into the world a bit early as twins usually do! My mother made the quilt top with the green binding. I made the orange bound quilt and quilted them with my Zentangle style quilting.

The Christmas quilt is a customer quilt that I have nearly done! Yippee, it is amazing what you can do in a little bit at a time, EVERY DAY. It is curls, holly leaves and curves.

I am linking up to Free motion by the River,

Thanks,

Monday’s weekend Recap!

This weekend we went to a Highland Games in Kalamazoo. I had the opportunity to stop in a Joann’s on Sunday and found the perfect fabric to bind the twins quilt! Quilter’s are such helpful people, I had a fellow customer help me find exactly what I was looking for.

Here is the binding made this Monday morning and ready to sew on the quilts later today!

Ok here are the links to photos to the weekend Highland games. My husband was about 6 of 14 by my scorekeeping. It was a great day. My poor husband was a bit stressed. He secured the hotel on Hotels.com. He pulled in the parking lot and the hotel was old. There was a huge truck parked by our room with welding equipment in the bed and spiked hub caps on it. Obviously, workers were staying here and bbq in the parking lot. Ok fine. We went into the room and it smelled like work boots. Ugh, probably from a musty a/c. We bought a few supplies late as his job made us leave several hours after we expected. He ran into problems paying bills before leaving town. So we bought an air freshener on the weekend of college move in. It was crazy.

Good thing it turned around at the games. It wasn’t a big event but any day doing what you love to do is better than a day working or sitting around the house. 2013-08-25 14.25.34

Sunday we had lunch with our Son who was able to update us on his first week of college and we went to two stores he needed to go to- guitar center and Meijers. We topped it all off with Frozen Yogurt. HMMMMM, now back to reality!

Reflections on the AQS show

My quilt came home from the Grand Rapids AQS show!! It was such fun to make this quilt. Then I applied to this show on a whim, and surprise, I was accepted. I mailed it off and then went to the show.2013-08-17 16.02.58

It was the most impressive show I have ever been to. I took tons of pictures but according to the agreement with AQS they are for personal use and not to be shared on the internet. I will respect that. I will say pictures don’t even begin to capture the art on display. I was very humbled to have my little quilt there.

I have to say that it was a wonderful experience. Everyone was wonderful to work with at AQS. It was a beautiful venue and Grand Rapids is a gracious host to this event.

I had so much fun, I want to try again. And I am glad that my quilt is home, safe and sound.

Finished a Sweet quilt

by a customer who is 90. She’s a wonderful quilter. I thought the 1930’s feel should have flowers, butterflies and a feather border. I like the heavier quilting on the border. 🙂

And a life update: Our oldest daughter is now 32 weeks along with the twins. She will hopefully make it to 37 weeks before delivery , and all is well with her. Our son is now a freshman in college and is doing well with the orientation. Classes start Monday. We will take him to lunch on Sunday and go to the store for anything we forgot when we dropped off. My husband and I are adjusting. I think my new Happiness Project and routine will serve me well. Read about that here>

I have two Christmas quilts to work on next and hope to get one loaded today.

Happiness Project

A beginning of a new school year means a new Happiness Project.

I am not waiting until 2014 to start a new Happiness Project because a new routine usually start with the new school year. How funny that the most recent Happiness Project book, the author found that to be true for her so she started her project in September.

I choose to start mine today and the first month will run through September. I am starting with health. That means diet. That means daily exercise. That means clean up the house and organize. So easy to say, right?

This weekend we were out of town to a quilt show and moved our youngest in to college. That means my house has been neglected a bit. I ate out at all my favorite places from Red Robin to Pizza hut. We ate buffets and candy. I had a bit of walking, shopping, going to the movies, hotels and such. I feel a bit sick and tired from all the activity and junk food.

Well, it won’t be hard to do my goals because much of this is part of my routine. What will be challenging will be to do all of it consistently. Daily. Yes Daily. I have an idea to make the routine different as things are changing around here. Yep, change means I need to get a better routine going and be more healthy and efficient. Summer fun is over. It’s time to get to work with balance.
image

I tend to be a workaholic. I work all day at my day job and then work at my home based business in the evenings and on the weekends. Even during my lunch hour. I need to sneak work in often but I need to balance it out with healthy habits. I need to lose weight and get the house cleaning done on a more reasonable daily schedule vs a weekend marathon.

I work out 3 days a week and I am at the gym for 2 hours. I need to be there 5 days a week or more but not necessarily 2 hours each time. I am an evening work out person. So that routine is set. Evenings will also be clean up surfaces at the house.

So mornings is where the big changes are happening. I need to get up and do one household chore a day to keep up with the cleaning. I need to organize one small area. Both of these items should take 30 minutes or less. Then I can spend another 30-60 minutes working on my home based business.
image

That leaves me more free time on Sat and Sun to rest, have fun and create. It is amazing what can be done in short consistent steps. It is what we do every day that can make such a difference.
