Old yet modern

I sit behind customer quilts and look at them closely for a long time while I long arm them. I couldn’t help but notice the beautiful fabrics chosen for this Civil War reproduction d9p quilt. It amazes me how these reproduction  prints are really very modern. They are on a smaller scale, but they still have a very modern feel. I guess that’s why I like civil war reproduction fabric so much and why I also like to use modern fabrics. If you look very closely at each of these little blocks you will see what I mean, they could be used in modern quilts if they were larger scale and had brighter colors. I guess everything that is old is really new again is my grandmother used to say.

Linky party Tuesday

I am making 12 and 6 inch economy block. I may be on to something with this layout! The little blocks  are from the scraps of the big blocks, so far.

March madness and this isn’t about basketball

Its is that time of year, the long stretch until winter is done. It is our first winter empty nest. No sports or music things that kept up going 100 miles an hour all winter when the kids were home.

We woke up to more snow yesterday, cold and wind. It is also that time of year where there is not much to do. No place to go and nothing much on TV. All in all, stay at home weekend. And the winter madness.

I did get some things done this weekend. I made several economy blocks in bright colors. See first picture. I finished a customer quilt in a double stipple. I grocery shopped, went to a little home show in town, went to hobby lobby for batting and wandered around,  cleaned up the house, did laundry, watched several basketball games and spent an embarrassing amount of time on the computer and social media….

I also ate out at our new BWW. Which is good. I spent tons of wonderful time with my husband.

Then today we went to church, ate salads for lunch out , watch Nascar off and on, watched a show on ancient Egypt, cooked dinner, laundry, practiced violin and we both looked at each other this afternoon and said…..

Bored. Midwinter doldrums, cold weather, weak sun, cold temps, no motivation to do any spring cleaning with this weather. But man did I get other  stuff done…..

Spring , please get here soon, or we may go stir crazy.

I love seeing inspration for quilting everywhere…..love the colors and the border! This is from the Dennos museum from last weekend. So many inspirational things, I hope to start working on a modern liberated  quilt soon.

I am in a state of waiting right now.  Waiting for more spring weather, not snow, waiting to hear from my book proposal, waiting to hear about potential downsizing at work,  waiting to make a big long arm ad blitz based on work. I don’t want to advertise more if I have a more demanding day job…..I just need to wait patiently.  And work on my quilts!

After, so much fun….. Sunday night is here… Boo back to work. I spent yesterday first at a hunting expo, then a little museum with Gwen Marston’s modern quilts and then ended the day at a Irish hooley…. we spent the night at a historic hotel and then came home today. I enjoyed and wished the weekend would not end. Here are a few pictures of the tons I took to highlight the weekend. 2014-03-15 11.47.38 Here are some creepy mutant deer

a little about quilts and more about life…..

2014-03-13 07.31.24 Today is the 12th day of 12 days in a row that I am working my day job. I am a bit tired. A few things quilting did get done like this quilt that is going to a charity auction by the end of the month. I have 4 long arm quilts to do including this one. Two grad quilts that I am sewing by May. I can do it!!! Just gotta stay on target……

I have been eating my favorite foods this week, like peanut butter so not much weight loss going on. I have been exercising but I am just feeling tired and stressed. I have made 5– 80 mile  round trips to cover another office, driving is fatiguing and make me a bit car sick.  Work is in a state of flux and I expect by the end of the month all the budgetary announcements will be made for us. Just waiting is soooooo hard to do, I want to get on  with my life and move forward….waiting….not my strength.

Here is an interesting word collage from my facebook page with the most used words. enlarge it to get the full effect of all the words, lol. Love, weekend, Jay, hope, creative stick out to me, you have to look close at the light green words in the background. And this is yet another exercise that the same thing (pattern) in different color schemes say different things. A lesson to translate to quilting.

I have to say it was pretty eye opening to what I talk about the most and QUILT in is there too!!!
