I made the pies and stirred the potatoes for Thanksgiving. The lions share of the work went to my husband. He used the oven bag method and everything was very good as usual. I enjoyed the visiting with family over the weekend and seeing my son home from college. We played euchre and watched football. Perfect way to spend time together.

I have completed another customer quilt. It has the biggest punch with the piecing. Snowballs set in black solids fabrics. I quilted it in swirls and a paisley leaf. I love this quilt so much. I think that it will be well received by my customer.

Next week is going to be a rough return to reality!!!

A time where things are caught up, a rare moment

2014-11-12 07.45.34 2014-11-18 12.20.45

This week brought so many challenges with 40-50 inches of snow. I was able stay at the local office until Friday. It was a three times a day snow blow to the driveway. I took my turn one day. My husband had 11 hour days of course due to the high work volume and bad weather slowing everything down.

2014-11-19 13.16.51

By Friday the weather system moved on, yesterday and today it warmed up and melted the snow. Rain is in the forecast. Whew, I was getting worn down with the snow.

I am caught up on customer quilts and will post about them after delivery this week. I have caught up at work. I have cleaned this weekend and really getting things organized. I feel good and ready for Thanksgiving. We are shopping today, if the weather holds there will be 6 at our house for dinner, yay!!! Being empty nesters the crickets chirp on long weekends around here, lol.

What did I clean with, well I had to make do in the shower cleaner. I usually use Green Works. I didn’t have any. So I used the 50/50 Vinegar and dish soap solution. I scrubbed the tub first with some old soft soap then saturated my sponge in the vinegar solution. It worked and didn’t leave the tub slippery. I have several slips in the tub and that is no good!!!

I always use white vinegar to mix with water to mop the floors. I use white vinegar mixed with water to steam clean carpets. I use it to disinfect surfaces. I am going to use it more, I just read that there is a cleaning vinegar that is more acidic and works better. I love the fact that it is cheap, doesn’t trigger breathing problems for me and it kills germs.

Now, to continue to wage war on dust and cobwebs. I use swiffers, Mr clean erasure for sinks as well as walls and shelves , I also use Pledge allergen spray for furniture monthly. I wipe the wooden cupboard doors with it in the kitchen to remove grease. We just changed the furnace filter again and things seem to be better. We have to change it every 3 months. We use a hepa filter for everything that has a filter in the house.

Now to go to the grocery store and buy Thanksgiving stuff- turkey, stuffing bread, pie crusts, carmel, apples, white potatoes, something green for a side, a can of gravy ( ew) and pumpkin. I know I will get more as I go along. LOL

I really am a terrible cook. So my husband and share the Thanksgiving meal duties. I like to bake so the pies are easy. I like to make pumpkin rolls but I don’t have time to make it before Thursday, maybe on Friday for a weekend treat.

Happy Sunday all, I am going to Church first!!!

End of the Blog Tour for Vol. 10 of Quiltmaker 100 Block Magazine

Quiltmaker’s link is above.

This is the last post about the blocks I tested for Vol. 10. Quiltmaker Magazine is wonderful to work with. I enjoy testing the patterns before the magazine is released because it challenges me to follow patterns. I rarely do. It expands my skills and keeps me to a deadline. I work by day so I have to budget my time. I also work at home quilting for others and I juggle my own projects in there too.

This last block isn’t finished. I cut out all of the pieces and lay them out to prove they were tested and ok. I then spilled the block in a box I keep my finished blocks in that’s why it looks this way. I am not very good at applique and I didn’t finish this block and I don’t think I will. At the end of test was my once in a lifetime trip to Scotland and I have been playing catch up since.

All that said, this is the elements of block Christmas In my Soul by C. Brown on page 35 of the magazine. It is a very contemporary take on a Christmas ornament and very original. I love this block!!! It is many little applique pieces but it goes together nicely. I like the candy cane border very much, it was easy to make!

Thank you for being a part of my blog tour, regularly scheduled blogs will resume.

Blog Tour Continues

2014-08-26 22.09.52

This is a block called Diamond Pinwheels by S. Nelson on page 30 of this current of Quiltmaker 100 Block Magazine. This block is a very cool elongated pinwheel that will make a really nice elongated pinwheel with the corner pieces. I think this would be a fun full sized quilt.

This block is a very pretty star block called Sea Glitz by R. Sillbaugh. I love the sparkle it has and the points are very interesting with the pieced triangles. It went together very smoothly.

One more block to end the blog tour tomorrow!

Go to Quiltmaker’s Blog for a chance at some really cool prizes ! http://www.quiltmaker.com/blogs/quiltypleasures/2014/11/quiltmakers-100-blocks-blog-tour-day-5-issue-sets-and-mugs-galore/

And you can bet that I am working on testing blocks for the next magazine, who knows maybe I will try to submit one as a designer!!!

Blog Tour Day 4

Here we are at day 4 already!! I have been having so much fun looking at the magazine and planning a quilt with the blocks I have tested. I have been part of three Quiltmaker’s 100 block so I have nearly 40 blocks!!! I am going to share two more today that are in Volume 10 that is currently on the newsstands.

2014-07-03 17.57.38

This first block is by K.  Kramers on page 59 called Rail Road Crossings. I love the is block and it could have multiple background colors. There is an example of what the whole quilt could look like in the magazine. They do a nice job giving you ideas on layouts in this magazine.

This block is really pretty and it is called Palazzo by S. Murkin. It is on page 60 of the magazine. I choose a more muted color palette like a tile may be. I think this one is full of secondary patterns too if you were to make many into a quilt.

Only a few more blocks to share! Go to the link at the beginning to see your chance at a giveaway!!!

Day 3 of Quiltmaker 100 block blog Hop

Here is a link to Quiltmakers Blog for today, there is a giveaway there too!

Ok, this is really a cute block. I didn’t embroider the cherry stems on because I don’t like to long arm over embellishments. I also would probably add the stems with the long arm. My poor fingers just cant make pretty stitches anymore. It is by A. Holmes on page 20.  I couldn’t leave the crow all black so I gave mine grey wings, lol.

2014-06-29 13.38.43

This next block is really a fun one to do. I love the white star and the pow factor is in the corner of the star. It is a pieced block. It is by K. Jolly on page 57 of the magazine. I think that it would make a wonderful quilt and some fun secondary designs.

It is so much fun to test the blocks. I have a stack of blocks now and I am deciding how I want to  put together some of the test blocks into a quilt top. I think that will be a project for this long winter. See my instagram account for more on that!!!

Day 2 of Quiltmaker 100 Block Blog Hop

2014-07-05 15.10.26

Today is the second day of the Blog hop. The newest 100 block magazine should be available in your area. It is full of such wonderful ideas. I love this first block pictured. It was easy but has tons of interest! It is called Intersections on page 53 by A. Dolinger. I think that this is so fun and could be a secondary block or a main block.

This block is applique, did you feel me shudder at the word applique? I like this one called Tulip time. I like it because it is simple,  sweet and something I could do. It looks great, most of my applique is very sad. I also like the background . It is on page 37 and by C. Door.

2014-08-28 17.36.23

I love this block so much. It is modern in it’s feel and that is so me. It is called Fast Track by G. Erla on page 54. It is a bit more complicated to piece than at first look. I even had colors similar to what was in the pattern.

All blocks are 12.5 inches big. Take a chance a make one that you may never try on your own, you may find you are in love!

Be sure to check out Quiltmaker’s blog to see the giveaways!
