Road Trip our stop in Paducah, KY

2015-09-22 09.19.26 2015-09-22 09.20.08 Soooooo, what’s in Paducah? There are two places I wanted to go to. Hancock’s Of Paducah fabric store and the National Quilt museum. I was in my element. My……  Hancock’s  is the biggest store I have ever been in! I found it to be a wonderful experience. The prices were good, service wonderful and selection fantastic. I went in with a plan. I wanted to look for three things– solids, Tula pink and A Christmas story fabrics. If you don’t have a shopping plan you may get overwhelmed. I got there early and it was not crowded so I could leisurely shop and think. I had a budget that I worked with so my credit card wouldn’t be smoking as I was told by a fellow quilter in an online quilt group! I admit I did have a couple of impulse buys but I didn’t over do it.

I loved the museum. It had all the winners from quilt week. I have seen these quilts online and I bought a magazine earlier this year featuring them. However, pictures don’t do them justice. I had the biggest thrill seeing such fabulous works of art and it was inspiring. No pics in the gallery.

It isn’t a huge museum but just the right size. The special exhibits were Quilts of Valor and the Cayhoga island quilts. The sad part of this day happened when my husband and I went in. We happened to go in when a senior citizen tour bus went in. I gave them a coupon from the hotel and then I was asked for the very first time, “Are you a senior citizen?” I didn’t cry. Much.

Here is the river that Paducah is located on . We had lunch at a nice craft beer place, sipped moonshine samples downtown and went into an antique store. Best time. I would not go back during quit week because I think that the crowds would make me unhappy. So glad we went in the “off-season” and again the weather was perfect.

Sneak peek at what I brought home from Hancock’s, full disclosure will be a full post. We took a back road to Jackson, Tennessee. The Memphis zoo is the plan for our next stop.
