Free Mystery Quilt Along!! I love them and this is a mystery sampler designed to be a skill builder so everyone (including beginners) can join in! You will revist many skills that are essential for making most quilts! Let’s practice our accuracy skills, 1/4 inch seams, color play and start planning our quilting from the very beginning. Scrappy blocks would be awesome! I would suggest making all the connector blocks from the same fabrics for consistency in the design. The connector block has been revealed and you can see this in week 2. This Mystery Quilt even has a name– New Beginnings this link is for week 1! I like starting a brand new year with lots of goals and motivation. Or if you are in the mid winter doldrums or funk this may be just the solution to regain your creative mojo!
4 ½ inch square cut 4 white
4 ½ inch square cut 1 grey for center
4 7/8 cut 2 white
4 7/8 cut 2 grey
1. Make HST pair one white 4 7/8 with a grey of same size. Draw diagonal line on white square. Sew ¼ inch on either side of the diagonal. Cut on the diagonal line . Repeat with other white and grey square of 4 7/8 inch squares. These are will be the corners. Square up to 4 ½ inches and trim dog ears
Note: You could use 5 inch squares for your squares for the HST and do more squaring up to 4 ½ inches. DO NOT FORGET or they may be way too big.
2. Arrange the patches as in the block diagram. Be careful that the diagonal line is correct on your HST!
Layout block and check it before sewing.
